Ali Ashfaq scored the only goal against Seychelles tonight.

Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives lost their second international friendly match against Seychelles by 2-1 in Stade Linite, Victoria, Seychelles tonight.

Seychelles took the lead in the 12th minute but eight minutes later Ali Ashfaq leveled the game. But in the second half Rilwan Waheed was shown a red card and the host nation took advantage of it and they scored a good goal to take the lead for the second time.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, national team caretaker coach Ali Nashid (Ayya) said that they had to play with 10 players in the last 35 minutes and the home team took advantage of that.

“Riley was sent off just 10 minutes into the second half and they took the advantage of it.”

“Our fitness level was too low when compared to them. They finished the league just a day before the first friendly.”

Ayya also said that they missed the goal keeper Imran a lot in these three games.

“Imran is an important player for us and it was seen in these three games. The confidence of the defenders was too low and they were doing silly mistakes as of that.”

“But, with these kinds of matches only we can get experience and I hope the young ones will try hard to replace him.”

Maldives will return to Maldives on Sunday.

Loosing to a lower raked team will have a greater negative affect on our ranking than loosing to higher ranked team!!!!! the same goes to winning. So i do not know exactly what FAM is trying to achieve here. If they are looking for "experience" then why not play with khalidhoo and foakaidhoo instead.

Experience is what is important. Maldivian supporters need to have faith and patience for our team as this kind of match experience would be helpful in the future matches. I just wish our team will get more and more international exposure under a good coach with long term plans

Yes, i agree. Experience is vital for the development of football. But for God sake visit FIFA website and see Maldives fixture and results. Our pages are simply blank!!!! Until a tournament falls upon us, then there is one or two friendlies!!! Is this the way this has to be done????? Countries with football in mind, like Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Oman etc etc play so many matches, that's evident from their page!!! Even this cricket minded India plays for games than us!!! I will not be writing this comment this way if FAM plays a friendly at least in every other FIFA DAY, no matter how weak the opponent is, then i will be indeed supporting your comment.

The most frustrating thing being a Maldivian supporter is that we never seem to learn from our experiences. "Fitness level was too low" etc. Just sort it out already!

As a supporter, not happy at all with the performance! Physical fitness is damn too low and we are not really playing professional football here! FAM has this big mouth with a lot of outstanding, pending vows which will probably never happen! Political influences are damn high on to FAM and National team! If FAM, try, If government try, why cant we play friendlies with higher ranked countries? Why is selecting a couch pending? And we are facing questions from AFC, regarding the preparations of challenge Cup! Some local clubs have been facing a lot of financial problems and pressure is on them from FIFA and AFC. These are issues! i hope for a better situation than this!
