When popov took the post as national team head coach in January this year, he was saying that he needs the National team together for practice at least once a week. Am wondering if this happened at all. As I have said many times over the past, our clubs need to focus on fitness of players as well. Was happy to see a coach who worked with werder Bremen Take the helm at new radiant, as I knew that if he stayed and worked the team as per his plans our football could see it go a step higher. But when the old guard of the team has too much authority over the management a professional coach will not work for that team. Having said this, i really hope that the national coach can do wonders over a 10 day trip. I hope the players don't end up complaining to FAM about having to do too much fitness work and plot to send this coach away too. Our football will never improve if we train only for the local league. Similar to the fitness test the referees have to do to get qualified to officiate foreign tournaments, I suggest that our players are given fitness targets too. So they will first need attain this fitness goals if they want to be selected to the national squad. Waiting to see the improvements to our team and wishing and praying for great results in the wc qualifications.

I remember the players tried to oust Urbanyi back in 2013 after signing a petition complaining that he was "overworking" them. Our football might be a lot better than it was in the 1970s, but the mentality of our footballers still remain in that era. If they see YouTube videos of training sessions of clubs like Bayern Munich, I guess these so-called Dhivehi "footballers" will never want to play football again because of the way the Robben, Muller etc. are getting "overworked" by Guardiola. No wonder so many of them reject offers from overseas clubs so that they can stay in their comfort zone in Male'. Just attend 2 practices a week, take penalty kicks and then play a match in an empty stadium. Only a year ago, Akram and Sentey looked set to play in the Oman League, while Rilwan appeared to be on his way to Malaysia. Of course nothing happened, what did we expect in the first place?

Popov is clearly unhappy with the way the players treat themselves. He's working really hard to improve the state of our football but it's a two way thing. Popov helps the players and the players should help him in return by making lifestyle and diet improvements and preparing themselves for more intensive sessions. Unfortunately, most players are like students who don"t do homework. They attend classes regularly, but never bother to complete their homework, so by the next day they have forgotten everything and the teacher would need to go back to step one and teach everything from the beginning. You all saw even during the practice sessions in Male' where some players were laughing and having fun all throughout the training. It's clear that these players just don't take physical fitness sessions seriously. They think fitness sessions are "majaa kuraa gadi". If they're not careful Popov might decide that enough is enough and resign.
