Maldives to play friendly against Philippines

Male', MALDIVES - Maldives set to play an International friendly against Philippines ahead of World Cup Qualifying match against China.

Philippines Football Federation (PFF) General Secretary yesterday announced that the National Men’s “A” Team will play an international friendly match against the National Men’s “A” Team of Maldives on 3 September 2015 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 8pm. Necessary authorizations from FIFA and AFC are now being secured.

Maldives is currently on the qualifying campaign for 2018 FIFA world cup, But things aren't going as smoothly for the Maldives, as they lost their first two matches in Group C, with losses to Qatar and Hong Kong.

Philippines and Maldives only met once in a FIFA sanctioned match, in the semifinals of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup where Philippine squad came out on top with a 3-2 win in extra time.

Philippines have not competed as a team since their June 16 win over Yemen, and while they have surely used the time to put in the work to prepare for Uzbekistan, They take Maldives

Actually Maldives and Philippines have met on two FIFA sanctioned occasions: the 3-2 win for Philippines last year and a 3-2 win for Maldives in 2009, during an AFC Challenge Cup qualifier. Anyway, this is a very good match for both teams ahead of their respective qualifiers.
