Maziya defends Charity Shield

Male’, MALDIVES – Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has won the FAM Charity Shield for a second consecutive year after beating arch rivals New Radiant by 1-0 tonight.

Asadhulla Abdulla scored the only goal in the first half of the extra time in the match played at National Football Stadium.

Maziya started the match very well and their first attempt came in the first minute of the game from Ahmed Nashid, his attempt hits the goal post.

In the 22nd minute Asadhulla Abdulla shot it wide from a curled cross from Nashid from the right flank.

In the 59th minute Maziya’s keeper Imran was forced to stop a wonderful shot from Rilwan and Hamza made another attempt from the rebounded ball.

Four minutes before the normal time, Abdulla Haneef made a good shot in the middle of the half, which goes straight to the gloves of the keeper.

Asadhulla Abdulla broke the deadlock in the 96th minute after beating the keeper and put it into an empty net.

In the 105th minute Ahmed Niyaz hits the post from a wonderful shot inside the box.

This is the second consecutive year that Maziya won the Charity Shield. They won their first curtain raiser of the Maldives football season last year after beating New Radiant by 2-0.
