Maziya wins first match

Male', MALDIVES - Maziya Sports and Recreation Club won their first game in the People's Cup against Singapore's LionXII by 2-1 today.

In the first half both teams failed to create a goal scoring opportunity but in the second half Maizya changed their game plan and started to supply the balls into the box from two flanks.

Maziya Spanish forward Pablo Rodriguez broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute from a superb shot inside the box.

Twelve minutes later Madhu Mohana leveled the game from a wonderful header inside the box from a corner kick.

Maziya guaranteed the three points in the last minute of the game from a superb header by Amdhan Ali from a free kick.

Maziya's coach Ali Suzain said that it was an important win for him.

"It was an important win for me as this is my 30th year in football."

"I have told you all even before that the quality of Pablo and he has proved it in today's game. And also our keeper Imran played a very good game.”

On the other hand LionsXII coach Fandi said that it was a disappointing result for him.

“This was a disappointing result for me at least we deserved a point in this game. Maziya changed the game plan in the second half and they have two fast players on the wings and they changed the game.”
