Male, MALDIVES – New Radiant Sports Clubs Coach Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan) dedicated the President’s Cup to his mom, Azeeza Mohammed, who is celebrating her birthday today. New Radiant Sports Club won the Presidents Cup 2012 today by beating defending champions Victory Sports Club in penalty shoot-out.
“I want to dedicate the trophy to my mom who is celebrating her birthday today”.
“It’s a birthday gift for my mom”.
Speaking after the match, Mohan praised his boys for their hard work and effort. He said that he knew it wouldn’t be an easy game against Victory.
“First of all, I thank Allah for the victory”.
“I would say it’s the hard work of my boys that gave us the championship”.
“Even at the beginning I knew, it wouldn’t be an easy game, especially against Victory. But I was confident that we could win it”
Mohan also noted that his key striker Ali Ashfag was suffering from an injury even when he started the match.
“Ashfag wasn’t fully fit even when he started. And later I had to substitute him as he couldn’t play anymore”.
“All our players worked very hard to cover up the absence of Dhagey”.
In the penalty shootout after a goalless draw in the 120 minutes of play, Fazeel (Oppo) and Niyaz scored for New Radiant while Umair scored the only penalty out of five, for Victory SC. Mohan said that he was confident of the title, when it was time of penalty.
“I was confident as Maldives number one goal keeper is in our side. We also were practicing for penalties from the first semifinals. Kudos and Ahmed Abdullah (Lily) has been superb in the practice session for penalties.”
Answering a question by maldivesoccer.com, Mohan noted that he would start preparing for next season starting from tomorrow.
“We haven’t done much planning for next season. Now we have to start planning for next season. Identify the budget, sit down with the board and start working out the plans. We will start that work starting from tomorrow itself”
