National coach to arrive before POMIS Cup

Drago Mamic's contract was terminated on mutual understanding.

Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has said that the new coach of national team will arrive to Maldives before the POMIS Cup which is scheduled to start later this month.

Speaking at a press conference held at FAM House normalization committee chairman Mohamed Shaweed said that they have decided a coach for the national team.

“We have decided a coach for the national team and he will arrive to Maldives before the POMIS Cup.”

“We have very important tournaments scheduled for this year and we want to win trophies. So have decided someone who could win a title for us.”

Shaweed also reiterated that they have come to a mutual understanding with the current coach, Drago Mamic to terminate his contract and he will leave us soon.

Under the helm of Drago Mamic Maldives won the bronze medal in AFC Challenge Cup held in Maldives last year and it was the first medal won by the Maldives in any tournament organized by the AFC.

I actually quite liked Drago Mamic as he appeared to have the proper tactical nous, unlike Urbanyi at times. He appeared to know the playing styles of our players very well, despite having a very limited preparation time before the AFC Challenge Cup. He made some key decisions that helped us to navigate past the group stages. Nevertheless, a big thank you to Coach Mamic. I will now eagerly await the appointment of the new coach, hope he is competent enough.

Dont get the point why Mamic get the sack. He was brought in with less than a month to go before AFC Challenge Cup. He wouldnt know where or how to start, what kind of BOOGAL to make to bring players to best fitness as Ilham in his incredible wisdom saw it fitting to postpone the season for what purported to be stadium renovation when in reality it was a nothing more than a little cosmatic change, rebrading the name. Coach had a squad of players he doesnt know who best fit his plan. What can even a Morinho do within the ambit of the time he got? Do we want magician as a coach?
