Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team has started their practice this evening for the upcoming friendly games against Seychelles later this month.

Speaking to the media, national team caretaker coach Ali Nashid (Ayya) said that they selected the team based on the preparation for the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup.

“We selected the team based on the preparation for the Challenge Cup. Ali Umar and Mohamed Rasheed (Hockey) will not be in the team. Hockey was suspended and FAM decided to respect it and Ali Umar was not included as we are preparing for the Challenge Cup. But Hockey will join us after the friendly games”

Ayya also said that he wants a good result from these matches and he will use the best options for them.

“We will take these three games very seriously. I don’t want to test anything but I want to have good results and in football everything is based on the results. We have to play on a turf pitch so we will prepare based on the information that we got from Seychelles.”

When asked about the squad for the friendly games he said it won’t change a lot when compared to the SAFF Championship squad.

“It won’t change a lot. We have included Ashad Ali (Adubarey) and he was not a new one to the squad. But Ahmed Nashid won’t be with the team as he has planned his wedding this month.”

Ayya also reiterated the four players who are in the Under 23 squad will join the senior team from Indonesia after the tournament in Indonesia.

Maldives will depart to Seychelles on 23rd November.

The signs are there for everybody to see, we are not going to give good fight in AFC challege cup. With this kind of preparation with a local coach, and when and if a new head coach arrives ( nobody knows when...may be this delaying tactic is another way of letting us know they are going to have local coach for the tounament after all) he may not have enough time to get to know the players well, to stick up a well rounded team and finally FAM will skirt around of all the responsibilities for the poor performances and leave the coach to bear the brunt. This is the same old stories of our football, nothing has changed and nothing will.

do you think this care taker can handle the team , fam must have some answer for this , ogaru ayya is not capable of handling such a senior team, i dont blame him but the fam must take the full responsibility of this matter

This has nothing to do with FAM. Ogaru Ayya is Suzain's fav. and FAM is suzain now. so he stays. suzain will do what ever he can to have full control. Ayya might be incharge in the face of the national team. but surely Suzain will we command everything. wait and see. He gave orders to urubani also when he was coach. now it will even be more easier for him.
