Male’, MALDIVES – New Radiant’s midfielders Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo) and Hamzath Mohamed (Hampu) have included in the Maldives national team squad for the AFC Challenge Cup.

National team started the practice on 30th March with 30 players but after watching New Radiant game against Persipura coach Mamic decided to add Oppo and Hampu to the preliminary squad.

Oppo was a regular starter of the Maldives national team since 1999. But Hampu started to play football in the top flight this season.

Hampu has played for New Radiant’s youth team and with his talent and skills the club has signed an agreement with him. His debut international match was in this year’s AFC Cup match against Home United on 25th February.

This is the reason why FAM should have brought the coach earlier. He could have checked both Maziya and New Radiant play couple of home games and also some of the away games. But apparently(according to FAM) it would have been a waste to bring the Coach too early. Any ways lets wait and see.

I have seen Oppo working hard on his fitness. If he is good then it is ok to include him in NT otherwise we simply do not need him now. There is lot of experience already in the selection, Mukthaar, Bonda to name a few. I believe this is the time to invite young talents like Hamza. And i am very happy to see him in the NT. Work hard Hamza, this is YOUR CHANCE!!!

If the Dhivehi League was being played, the coach would've been able to analyze all the players. But I'm really happy with the addition of Hampu, as I think he has the potential to become a very good player with the right guidance. Oppo can still contribute, but I see him more as a supersub rather than a starter. We'll see...
