Persibo 0-7 New Radiant: Ashfaq scores five

Mar 12, 2013 - 03:31:14 | Shimaz Ali
Ashfaq and Umair celebrating a goal against Sun Hei last week. Ashfaq scored 5 goals against Persibo today

Ali Ashfaq scored five goals as Maldivian champions New Radiant maintained their 100% record in Group F of the AFC Cup after posting a resounding 7-0 win over Indonesian Cup winners Persibo on Tuesday.

Mohamed Umair, who scored the only goal last week as New Radiant edged out Hong Kong’s Sunray Cave JC Sun Hei, opened the scoring at Manahan Stadium before Ali extended the advantage before half-time.

Ashfaq quickly completed his hat-trick inside the first 15 minutes of the second half before adding two further goals either side of a strike from Ali Umar as Persibo suffered a second defeat of the campaign after losing 3-0 to Myanmar National League champions Yangon United at the end of February.

New Radiant took the game to Persibo from the first whistle and opened the scoring after just 11 minutes as Ashfaq charged forward after the home side gave away possession from a throw-in from inside before squaring for Mohamed to slide the ball into the roof of the net from inside the six-yard area.

The visitors continued to dominate and after both Ali Fasir and Mohamed hit the Persibo crossbar, New Radiant finally doubled their advantage 11 minutes before half-time as Ashfaq timed his run to perfection to beat the offside trap before coolly beating goalkeeper Happy Kurniawan.

And just five minutes after the break Ashfaq added a second as the striker again raced clear of the Persibo defence before firing a low angled strike into the bottom corner.

Ashfaq then completed his hat-trick eight minutes later as the striker picked himself up after being upended on the edge of the Persibo area before beating Kurniawan as his free-kick skipped off the damp surface before nestling in the bottom corner.
Ali Umar got his name on the score sheet six minutes after the hour mark after taking full advantage of a mistake by Persibo defender Tri Rahmad Priadi on the edge of his own penalty area.

Ashfaq’s fourth arrived soon after as the striker again beat the Persibo offside trap with 20 minutes remaining and fired high into the net after taking his time to pick his spot with Kurniawan and two defenders on the goal line.

And after Persibo’s Edy Gunawan was sent-off for lashing out at New Radiant substitute Ahmed Thariq with 13 minutes remaining, Ashfaq completed the scoring three minutes later as the striker again raced clear of the home sides defence before firing past Kurniawan.

Okay. Then why not send teams from your so called "super" league? I mean, if you guys (Indonesia) want to win the AFC cup, why not send better teams, from the so called better league?

Hey Indonesia, what do you mean by an amateur football club? Do you think FIFA or AFC would allow an amateur football club to compete in one of its premier tournaments? Even if you feel too bitter about huge defeat don’t try to spread lies. Persibo is a professional Indonesian football team based in Bojonegoro and today they had no answer for striker on fire.

Your so called strong team, Semen Padang, the current champions of Indonesian Premier League has just ended with a 2-2 draw against the Churchill Brothers of India. I am not saying we are the best and we are unbeatable. We too are very ordinary teams specially in terms of finance and infrastructure. But that will not let us down, this is football and we will keep on fighting. Behold.......here comes the islandeeeeeeerrrrrrrs.

A very good performance by New Radiant. As a New Radiant fan, it is safe to say that this is the first time I saw New Radiant beating a foreign team - even inside Maldives - in such a score. Congratulations!!

You make us all maldivians proud! The full backs need to improve on their concentration. Rest all good! Counter attack is breathtaking at times!

Congratz New radiant ! Persibo Bojonegoro is a mirror of current chaos situation in Indonesian football. There a two leagues, two federations and also two national teams. But hang-on, since yesterday (march 17) the two federations have been unified again...so the strong side NT will face Saudi Arabia on 23 March..hopefully they can make us forget 0-1 away defeat to Iraq last month as we just featured third string team. Next edition of AFC Cup...we will send strong clubs from Indonesia Super League teams. In Sha Allah.
