Saint Denis, REUNION – Maldives national team coach Velizar Popov has responded to the media critics to him saying that he will take the responsibilities if losing the games.
Speaking to the Maldives media team in Reunion just after the match against Seychelles yesterday Popov said he never gave excuses when they lose a game.
“I never give excuses and when the team lose it is because of me and when the team wins all the credit goes to the players. So today all the credit goes to the players.”
“This team is completely a new team and we are without six key players and during the past few matches with Seychelles we lost all the games but to we got the chance to win the game with 10 goals.” Popov added.
“The players played a fantastic game today and I can say that during the past few years I spent in the Maldives this is the best football match that my team played. They played exactly what I want from them and the all the credit goes to the players.”
Popov also said that now he has two options to work with the Maldives national team and shared his view about the players who was dropped from the team.
“About the players who are dropped from the team and talking too much, there is only two option and one is that I will clean totally this team and will built something new or after one week we go back to Male, I will terminate my contract and go back to home and that’s it.”
“When they play bad I will criticize them and after the first I did that and they reacted to that fantastic. This is the football which I wanted to see.”
Bulgarian born tactician said that the future of Maldives is bright with the young new players and they need to play more games.
“The future of Maldives is very bright with the young players. Naaiz, Andy, Hampu, Imaz and Irey are fantastic players and I can’t put nine or ten players on the field at a same time.”
Maldives will play their last group game against Madagascar tomorrow evening.
