Popov selects squad for friendly

Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team coach Velizar Popov has selected his 24 player squad for the upcoming international friendly match against Tajikistan.

The 24 player squad includes 10 players from Maziya Sports and Recreation Club, 7 players from New Radiant, 5 players from Club Eagles and the two Maldivian players playing abroad.

National team will start their practices tonight at 1930 hours at National Football Stadium for the friendly match against Tajikistan, which is scheduled to play on 26th of this month.

No new players made the cut. I suppose Popov will have a better idea of who the best players are when the Dhivehi League begins.

How come ifrah n faisal is in the team without TC keeper imran.. he played a fantastic season last year clearly shows incapability of aslam and FA .... is the national team also taken politically? Hehe

Why is dhagey in the squad? He suffered a hamstring injury on this month 15th - most of this type of injuries need to 10 to 15 days for good recovery. Nowadays 10 days is also not enough, not the minimum required days. With only ten days rest there is a high chance it may recur again. Maldives friendly is in 10 days time and by that time it will only be ten days his injury. So why is he taken to the squad.

If it's a hamstring injury, caution is certainly advisable but whether to come on or not and for how long should be decided by the Popov and Dhagey.
