Kathmandu, NEPAL – India has reached to final of the SAFF Championship 2013 after beating Maldives 1 - 0 in the second semifinal match played today.

First half of the game as held in a tight tie where neither team was able to produce a good open chance.

India was found very aggressive in the game and in first forty five minutes itself 14 fouls came from Indian side while 3 fouls was from Maldives.

Four minutes in to the second half Niyaz sent a powerful long-range shot on target but Subrata paul dived and saved the ball.

Umair tried with another long range shot in the 61st minute but again it was Subrata came to deny the attempt.

A minute later, Gouramangi brought down Ashfaq as Ashfaq beat him in India’s defense line. Referee caution a yellow card but Maldives players and officials appeal to a red card, as Gouramangi was the last man in situation.

Ashfaq was cautioned with a yellow card suspecting for a dive inside the penalty area in the seventy fourth minute of the game. Ashfaq sprinted to a back pass to Subrata and got the ball but was down in to the box before getting in to the second touch.

India took the lead in the 86th minute, Arnab fired a thunder bolt from edge of the penalty area in to the far bottom corner of the goal giving no chance to keeper Imran Mohamed.

After the final whistle of the game Maldives players protest against match Officials while Ali Umar and Mohamed Rasheed (Hockey) was red carded for their unsporting behavior.

Tactical blunders by Maldives Coach Urbanyi costs Maldives the match against India. Its the Coach and only the Coach who has to take the blame.

hahahahaha.....yet again Maldives lost! They think they are the best when they actually were the worst team in the semi final. Scoring 18 goals against Bhutan and Sri Lanka? not hard when they are the worst two teams in the tournament

Maldives yet again fallen to their nemesis. but you have 2 good players in Asfaq and Umair but not sure what is required to beat this resilient Indian side which was the weakest team in last few years.

India deserved to win, once again we should blame ourselves for our downfall not the referee. Blaming the referee is just turning a blind eye to our own weaknesses. It wasn't a penalty, that was why Ashfaq wasn't protesting at the end of the match like the other players. We totally forgot our gameplan once India made a shot on goal early in the match. After that, it was just playing aimless long balls like the way we did in the 80s. Let's get rid of the ill-disciplined players, bring in a stronger management team with more backbone and start preparing for the AFC Challenge Cup. Or we can just stay here and blame the referee and his mother and keep losing to India without ever improving.

Imma as always you have spoken absolutely the truth. I totally agree with all what have said. We cannot blame referee, his decision are good. We loss because we failed to play a passing game. We were not moving to "collect" the ball from defense. And even if we try that we losses the ball too easily and players were seemingly afraid to try it again, though that was our game. Our midfield could not deliver passes to Dhagey. Coach did not make any change to the game plan, not even a substitution, when we clearly saw we were failing to do anything. I will simply put it like this, "Those who failed to play their game, lost today."

Poor sporting spirit by Maldives. Every time they lose they get violent. I remember at least 3-4 occasions that this has happened. Winning and losing are part and parcel of sport but this kind of behaviour spoils a country`s reputation. The match was very slow paced and boring.

Agreed to a certain extent. But Indians are not a great example to prove that. I recall a certain match where they set the stadium ablaze (which is much worse especially for losing a cricket match). Anyways congrats to Indian football team for winning.

Clear penalty denied and a good match ruined by the number of wrestling moves Indian players pulled on the Maldivians. Most of all the way our side played today was abysmal I have no idea why our coach thinks long balls are the way to go. Clearly it's our weakest form of play. I call for his immediate resignation. We need a new head to help lead our team to "aa usminthakah"

I would like to play the blame game too. It must have been a red card I agree. However, the truth is that the players rule over the management today resulting in the poor sporting discipline. Refree's decision show what football is like. But for the rest of the time, the team did not play a nice game. Admit it. Improve for better.

India was the better team during the match and clearly deserved to win. They were fighting for the ball whilst our players were clearly overconfident. The game plan was not suited to be played against the Indians. All in all tactically and player wise we were poor! And it was not a penalty. He clearly dived before the contact and the contact was minimal and after the dive. The referee was spot on. Also remove those undisciplined players as they have shamed the national jersey.
