Shaweed resigns, Bassam as the chairman

Male’, MALDIVES – FIFA has appointed General Secretary of Football Association of Maldives, Bassam Adeel Jaleel as the new chairman as former chairman Shaweed resigns from his post.

Shaweed resigned from his post when FIFA extended the mandate of the normalization committee until May 31, 2016. Previous deadline from FIFA was until the end of this month.

FIFA extended the mandate of the normalization committee to give more time to pass a new statutes and to host an election.

In an extra ordinary congress. FAM passed a new statutes which is against the new reform agenda of FIFA and the governing body of world football has rejected the new statutes.

Bassam started to work as the general secretary of FAM in 2014 December when FIFA appointed a normalization committee.
