Ashfaq celebrating the second goal against Pakistan in tonight's friendly match against Pakistan.

Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives won the second international friendly match against Pakistan by 3-0 after a stylish Tiki-taka style performance. Mohamed Umair scored in the 49th minute and skipper Ali Ashfaq scored in the 67th and 90th minute for the islanders.

In the 4th minute Maldives created a good chance to score. Ali Ashfaq beat his marker and gave a good ball to Thariq but when he passed the ball to Fasir, he was caught offside.

Assad Abdul Ghani retires from National team in the 9th minute of game.

In the 10th minute of the game Pakistan missed a good chance to score from a free kick. Hassan Bashir’s free kick hits the cross bar.

Three minutes later Ahmed Thariq, who scored 16 goals from 37 games also retired from National team.

In the 27th minute Shifan sent a good header inside the box from Umair’s corner but it went wide.

Ten minutes later Mohamed Arif made a stunning shot and hits the woodwork.

In the 49th minute Ali Fasir made a good shot just out side the box but keeper cleared it for a corner kick.

In the 59th minute Mohamed Umari broke the deadlock from a stunning shot outside the box. Pakistani keeper Jaffar Khan surely did not expect the thunderous shot.

Ashfaq doubled the lead for Maldives in the 67th minute from a superb volley. Ahmed Rasheed supplied a good ball into the box and he managed to score from that.

In the 79th minute Ashfaq sent another good shot on target but it went wide.

In the 83rd minute Pakistan’s Hassan Bashir made a good shot inside the box but his poor effort went over the bar.

Ashfaq scored the third goal in the 90th minute after a good solo effort. He beat the keeper and two defenders to find the back of the net.

Why does no one mention anything about the awesome quick passing that led upto the 3rd goal especially the first time pass by Naashid that put ashfaq through on goal. Ashfaq showed some great skill to finish it off but when i read this article it gives me the impression that ashfaq just went and beat the whole pakistan team by himself which is not the case his team mates put him through so that he only had 2 pakistani players to beat

I agree. Our fans, sports news reporters and journalists tend to get so caught up in the Ashfaq hype that they often forget about the other equally important 10 men on the pitch. Having watched both matches, I was very impressed by the performance of the whole team. Too often in the past we saw 11 individuals on the pitch, so it was very refreshing to see the whole team working as a unit, keeping the ball on the ground and building up the play from the back. Bakaa was instrumental as ever and it was nice to see Dhagey back on form. Umair looked lively in the second match, which he capped off with a superb goal. Asadulla looks very promising as well, he appears to have matured as a footballer since his move to Maziya. I was also pleased with the display shown by Zaad when he came on last night. I know that he played for only a few minutes, but he showed some nice touches and kept things simple. If Bakaa gets injured, like during the last SAFF Championship and Nehru Cup, Zaad can be a natural replacement, instead of playing Shifan in the defensive midfield position.

I can see the foundation of a beautiful passing game, if we keep this in the league then it will be very easy for the NT to playing this football. And one more thing i noticed from the article. 'The Islanders'. I like that name better than 'Red Snappers'. We should use that until it catches on :D
