

Male’, MALDIVES – Ahmed Thoriq (Tom), Ahmed Nashid (Naatte) and Mohammed Yamaan has been dropped from the national team squad for the upcoming Nehru Cup. National Team coach Istvan Urbanyi has indicated before that Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) would be a stand by player in the squad.
Speaking to the press, after the first practice session, Urbanyi said that he has already told Tom about his stand on him, but he will finalise the decision after the practice sessions.
“Tom is still one of the best strikers in the Dhivehi League, but I think it’s time to give chance to young ones”.
“I asked him to give support and be ready as he is kind of a standby player”.
“Tom is standby player, but I haven’t taken the decision yet. I will see the practices and all and I have told him that”.
Earlier national team midfielder Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo) and Fairooz Adam Sameer were ruled out due to injury. Mukhthaar Naseer who was included in the preliminary squad announced his retirement from international football.
