U19 to compete in Second division

Maldives under 19 team in 2013. Under 19 team will compete in second division from this year.

Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has said that the Under 19 team will compete in the second division from this year.

An official from FAM said that the Under 19 team will not promote to Dhivehi Premier League or relegate to the third division even if they won the championship or finished the second division as the bottom.

According to FAM the main purpose of this is to give them competitive matches.

Excellent decision! This ensures that the 17/18 year-olds will get consistent competitive action. No more holding trials at the Turf Ground 1 week before U19 qualifiers. Just think; if we had done this before, we would now have an abundance of young talent ready to take the next step.
