Urbanyi praises team effort after winning the trophy

Nawalapitiya, Sri Lanka – Maldives U23 National Coach Istavan Urbanyi praised his team describing the players as new generation of heroes.

Maldives Under 23 has won the Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament after beating Pakistan Under 23 by 2 – 1 in the finals. Rilwan scored the opening goal from a free kick and he supplied a good through ball to Asadhullah who curled in to the goal to score the second. Pakistan scored their only goal in the 84th minute from the penalty spot. Keeper saved the initial penalty, but it deflected off the defender.

In an interview to maldivesoccer.com right after winning the championship, Urbanyi thanked the Maldivian supporters who cheered the team.

“Our players are heroes. Actually boys played against gents to win the title”.

“Its amazing. I really appreciate the support by the Maldivians who made the atmosphere like home for us”.

More than around 200 Maldivians traveled to Nawalapitiya (4 hours from Colombo) to cheer Maldives young boys.
