Male’, MALDIVES – VB Addu FC will face, All Youth Linkage (AYL) in the FA Cup quarter final tomorrow night. The football season resumes after a long break for the Nehru Cup which was held in New Delhi. Maldives defeated Syria and Nepal in the tournament.

VB’s main worry ahead of the clash is the injury of their midfielder, Cengiz Huseyin in the practices.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com ahead of the match, AYL coach Athif (Aathee) said that they would take the game seriously, however the changes in schedule will affect the game.

“We will be taking the match seriously. But the changes in the schedule will have a huge impact. We have been preparing for the match based on the schedule. But it keeps on changing every four to five days. It would be a huge worry for all the coaches.”

“But we will take the game seriously”

Aathee also believes that there would be an impact to the game of VB with the injury of their key midfielder.

“Cengiz’s injury would be a huge blow for them. But they have a strong bench and they could replace him. But it would definitely have an impact on their game”

In the second quarter final of the FA Cup New Radiant will be playing against Eagles on Monday and Victory will be playing against Valencia on Tuesday. In the fourth quarter final of the tournament last year’s runner up Maziya will be playing against Vyansa on Wednesday night.

We feel for coaches like Aathee. In fact no club in Maldives is well equipped with enough resources to carry on full length of a season without some problems. Come the breaks in every few months and change the schedule every other day and there you have a club’s financial muscle stretched wafer-thin. That is besides the havoc it creates on team’s preparation. The mental and physical fitness. The form of the players. The focus. FAM should think of leaving this blunt approach to national sport and focus on how best team could use their time and money in the league. Uncharacteristic breaks should not be entertained at the expense of club and the fitness of the players. When a league starts players somehow are attuned to the rigors of week in week out football and, when this disruption comes in the form of repeated breaks, it put so much strain on every aspect of a club.
