Male’, MALDIVES – After a 2-0 defeat against Victory in the ongoing Dhiraagu Dhivehi League, club Valencia is forced to wait for their last game of round two to ensure whether they secure a top six position in the league. Valencia with 10 points lies on 6th at the moment while AYL with 7 points remains on 7th position of league standings. However, with a superior goal difference compared to AYL is a huge relief for Valencia to avoid relegation qualification.

In last night game, Victory's two goals were scored by foreign player Awilo in the 80th and 90th minute of the game.

Victory was the dominant force right from the kick off and forced Valencia keeper Ifrah into action in the 24th minute from a good header by Awilo.

All the teams have just one game remaining the second round and only the top six will play in the third and final round of the league.

The league is two-horse race at the moment with defending champions New Radiant on top with 36 points while Maziya on second with 34 points. It is very much anticipated that the winner will be decided in the final round clash between the two heavy weights.

BG Sports with just 6 points in 13 games is confirmed as one team that will be played in the league qualification with champions and runners up of second division. AYL, who surprised many with a second round magic last season, was unable to replicate the form this season and is very likely to accompany BG Sports to fight for a place in the top flight next season.

In the next game of the league New Radiant will face Mahibadhoo on 9th October at 1600hrs.

FAM has a marketing department to look after the marketing aspect of football, to streamline its structure to the changing taste of fans, to look for ways to maximise supporters turn out, and most of all, see to it the tounament is healthy and competitive. What has it been doing for the last two years, fans attendance had dried into a mere trickle. It is like as if supporters are banned from stadium, a vast empty space on all sides. The sooner ilham's tenue ends the better. Our football needs somebody of Kaleem's vision and calibre who loves the game, who has what it takes to remedy what ails the game, not sombody whose alligrence to the game is severely weakened by increased political affiliations.

Sad truth: There are more people sitting on the team benches than fans in most DDL matches. I thought Mahibadhoo would bring a freshness and somewhat renewed enthusiasm to the league this season. Unfortunately for them, every match is like playing away from home as they are required to travel from their island to Male' ahead of every game. We need new ideas and Ilham was clearly bereft of any ideas from the beginning. He only applied for the FAM Presidency post as a means to remove what he saw as the political opposition i.e Ali Azim from an influential post. Nothing more, nothing less. Neither he nor his cronies give a rat's fart about football. They have even been invading clubs practice sessions at the Turf Ground so that they could have a kickabout together with their buddies. What sort of a President does this??

Wonder what Suzain and Satho would be thinking now, people who vehemently supported for ilham's case. As imma mentioned in the comment when somebody sees his ego bigger than the establishment, throw norms and rules wayside to fulfil his own desires, play politics at every available opportunity, no wonder we are doomed. He has done irreparable damage. The loss ilham leave to football establishment will take years to recover.Meanwhile we are left to watch for another few years as he runs FAM like his fiefdom.

Sorry to say this, but fans turned their backs on the game long before Ilham was put on the helm. I agree that he is not doing a good job, but Ali Azim was also not that different. He also ran things in his own. The bitter truth is that in almost all Maldivians now have a better thing support than soccer. They each have a political party. It's not the past two years that we should be talking about. Let's say the five. This also started with politicians getting involved with soccer. Using it as money laundering agent. Trying to destroy certain clubs just because they belong to a certain area or certain people. Etc...The list goes on.our lovely game is no more in this country.
