Kulhudhuffushi, MALDIVES – New Radiant's Slovakian playmaker William Macko came off the bench to score twice to hand the reigning champions a winning start in the President's Cup opening game against BG Sports today.

New Radiant went down inside half an hour mark after their former player David dribbled past the defenders and scored from a narrow angle. However, the champions of last three years came back stronger in the second half scoring two goals inside five minutes of the second half to take full control of the game.

William picked up a well placed through ball from Fasir in the 47th minute to level the game and two minutes later Ibrahim Fazeel scored taking advantage of keeper Ifrah's bad positioning, William added his second in the extra time of the game.

BG started the game very well and created the first chance of the game in the 6th minute from a stunning shot on target but keeper Alisher punched it over the bar for a corner kick.

Three minutes later Hamdhaan beat his marker from the right flank and supplied a good ball to David but he shot it into the gloves of the keeper Alisher.

In the 24th minute, New Radiant’s Ali Fasir missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock. Keeper Ifrah stops the shot from Fasir and it hits the woodwork.

BG Sports broke the deadlock after a solo effort from former New Radiant player David, who beat the defenders and keeper to score from a narrow angle.

Two minutes after the break William levels the game for the defending champions from a wonderful shot inside the box.

A minute later veteran midfielder Ibrahim Fazeel scored from a good shot just out side the box and took the lead for the Blues.

In the extra time of the match William converted the score to 3-1 from another descent striker inside the box.

New Radiant’s coach Sobah Mohamed said he is happy with the result and they have achieved what they wanted from this game.

“BG is a strong team and our main target is to start the tournament with a win and we are happy with result. We know this match would be a difficult game for us.”

On the other hand BG Sports coach Shaazly said they played well but the result is not good for them.

“We played well unfortunately the result was not on our side so we are not happy with that. We wanted to win this game.”
