SAFF C'ship: Maldives 8 – 2 Bhutan

Kathmandu, NEPAL – Maldives has reached to the semifinal of the SAFF Championship 2013 after beating Bhutan 8 – 2 in the match played today. Ali Ashfaq scored 4 goals in today’s game while Ali Fasir scored two. Ali Umar and Umair scored each one for Maldives as Passang and Chancho was the scorers for Bhutan.

Maldives started with low mural and went up to very tip of first half with one goal down to Bhutan. But Scored 6 goals in the second half of the game to confirm a place in the semifinal of the tournament.

Ali Fasir gifted the lead for Maldives in the 15th minute of the game. Fasir matched with Ashfaq’s through pass and drilled his shot in to the bottom corner of the goal

Ten minutes later Bhutan leveled the game with a fine header from Passang for Tshering’s right flank cross. This was the first ever goal scored by Bhutan against Maldives.

In 33rd minute of the game Chencho shocked Maldives with a stunning finish to top of the roof to take the lead for Bhutan giving no chance to keeper Imran.

In the final minute of the first half Bhutan went one man down as their goalkeeper was sent off with a direct red card for a foul on Ashfaq in one against one attempt.

Before end of the first half Umair leveled the game from the free kick awarded for the foul and march in to the dressing room with lessons to learn.

Eight minutes in to the second half Ashfaq scored twice and brought Maldives to front with the two assist from Birthday boy Ali Fasir.

Fasir scored with an long range shot in the sixty eighth minute of the game to change the score line to 5 – 2.

Fifteen minutes remaining in the clock Ashafq completed his hat trick and added another goal 3 minutes later to mark his 4th goal of the match and 10th goal in the competition.

Ali Umar scored the 8th goal of the match in the 81st minute, which tends to be the last one in goal fiesta to hand 8 – 2 win for Maldives.

With this win Maldives is now qualified for the semifinal of the tournament with Afghanistan who beats Sri Lanka 3 -1 early today.

In the next match of the SAFF Championship 2013 Nepal will play against India tomorrow at 14:45 (Maldives local time) while Bangladesh will confront Pakistan same day.
