Male', MALDIVES - FAM confirmed that nobody is responsible for Maldives’ loss in last year’s SAFF Championship. During a news conference held at FAM, Chairman Abdul Shukoor said ‘we weren’t lucky enough’ to go through to final of the competition.

‘Our boys played very well but they were unlucky. We scored a goal and the referee disallowed that and it could have changed the whole game’ Shukoor said.

‘In football there are wins and losses. We played fantastic football and it was mere luck’

Shukoor explained that FAM investigated the matter and concluded the preparation time was the major factor of the loss.

‘We had a very less time for the preparation. We had just a month to prepare, we need more time’

Pakistan was the only team, according to their media, who started their preparation earlier.

During the conference Stoikov spoke about the 5-2-3 formation he adopted.

'We tried 4-4-2 earlier in the first two practice matches. But it needs good accuracy and good placements and need a lot of hard work. Our players told me that they do not feel so good with the formation. So I had to change it'

Assistant coaches, Ihsaan and Suzeynu, accepted that Stoikov had discussion prior to the match and before he takes any decision.

‘Obviously, we have lots of discussions and we have allocated a time for it everyday. So we sit and discuss regarding the formation and the tactics’
