Ok! It's 2008 and let us wish all of our readers a very happy new year and take all of you to a journey to show some of the highlights of the year ended, 2007. It may not been a very colorful year for Maldivian football, nevertheless some of the interesting dates and events occurred and is worth a second look. That's the point of this report. The report is simple and easy to follow, no “long text” to read it's only based on the dates. We simply don't want to ruin your New Year celebration. That's the deal. 14 February After missing numerous chances the home leg game against Indonesia ended 0 – 0 and the away team qualified courtesy of their 1- 0 win in Jakarta. Though Maldives failed to qualify, many believed Suzeynu did a great job. 18 February New Radiant and Victory faced in the season's curtain raiser, after 120 minutes of play both teams were deadlocked at 2-2 and the mighty reds grabbed the winner through penalty kicks, thanks to Imran's three outstanding penalty saves. 22 February The very first game of Cup Winners Cup was abandoned when the stadium lighting system goes off within 15 minutes into the game. 23 February Maldives women's national team ended the Olympic qualifying crusade conceding 20 goals in three games; Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand scored 6, 5 and 9 goals respectively. Cup Winners Cup finally goes off the mark and the opener ended as a 1-1 draw between New Radiant and Victory. 26 February Ali Umar was named as FAM's best football of the year 2006 in their awarding ceremony held at Dharubaaruge. 29 March A newly transformed Valencia won 11 th Cup Winners Cup beating rivals New Radiant 3-1 in the final. 3 April Victory was named as 2006's best team with 80.25 points, followed by New Radiant with 68.94 points. 20 April Valencia shocked star assembled VB sports with a 2-1 win to enter FA Cup final, the match was remembered more on the events that unfolded at the end of the game. Players, officials and even supporters clashed after the game which opened the door for a nasty brawl that ended on the roads of the capital. 24 April A 2-3 defeat against Singapore Armed Forces in AFC Cup group stage game played in Male's confirmed that 2005's semi finalist New Radiant will have no chance of advancing in the AFC Cup 2007. 25 April Maldives women's national team hold Bahrain to a 1-1 draw in their second friendly game played in Male'. A great comeback for the home team that suffered a 0-7 defeat three days ago. 30 April New Radiant won FA Cup three years in a row for a second occasion beating Valencia 2 -0 in the final. 1 May All Youth Linkage (AYL) won second division title beating rivals Vyansa on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regular time. 9 May A 0- 2 defeat against Sun Hei FC in Male' confirmed Victory exits from AFC Cup. 17 June Former National team coach Joseph Jankech was confirmed to take the helm once again. 21 June Abdul Hameed Abdul Gafoor (Addo) was named as the new General Secretary of FAM after and Executive Committee meeting that lasted for five hours. 21 June David Booth of England resigned from the coach of Valencia. It was unconfirmed at that time the main reason of his sudden departure but it was later revealed that he got a better offer from an India club. 25 June Foakaidhoo won Zone 1-8 tournament beating Foundation for Vilufushi Development (FVD) 1-0. 11 July Maldives telecom company Dhiraagu penned a new deal with FAM to sponsor Dhivehi League for another two years. 12 July Defending champions New Radiant won the first game Dhiraagu Dhivehi League beating Victory 2-1. Shamveel Gasim and Assad Abdul Ghanee scored for the blues and Adam Niyaz cut the deficit for the reds. 25 July FAM chairman Abdul Shukoor stepped down from the post after he was appointed as a state minister in 11 th July. 5 August Former New Radiant and National team captain Mohamed Kaleem has been appointed as the new chairman of FAM. 10 September Victory's 1-0 win over New Radiant in the final game of Dhiraagu Dhivehi league crowned them as the new champions. 15 September A 2 -1 win over Victory in the opening game of President's Cup confirmed New Radiant a place in the final. 22 September New Radiant became the champions of President's Cup after beating Victory 3-1 in the final. Assad, Shimaz and Shmveel scored for New Radiant and Rodiquez scored Victory's goal. 28 October Maldives beat Yemen 2-0 in the return leg of their WCQ preliminary stage played in Male', but that didn't heal the pain of 0-3 loss they suffered in early October in Yemen. 14 November Ali Ashfaag (Dhagey) and Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo) joined Brunei's DPMM FC from New Radiant and Victory respectively. The duo became the first Maldivian players to play in the ASEAN region. 17 November Maldives national team beat Malaysia 1-0 in an international friendly game played in Malaysia. Captain Assad Abdul Ghanee scored the winner early in the second half and the match also shows promising defender Sobah Mohamed received a red card. 18 November Maldives under 19 side ended their AFC under 19 qualifying with three points in five game. Maldives started the campaign with a 3-0 defeat against Thailand and 1-0 defeat against Japan. But in their remaining fixtures, grabbed a 2-2, 1-1 and 0-0 draw against Laos, Chinese Taipei and Myanmar respectively. 20 November FIFA has formed an interim committee in FAM with Ahmed Shahir as the chairman and Shah Ismail as the secretary. 15 December Maabaidhoo Isdharivarunge Gulhun (MIG) won third division title beating Kin'bidhoo Innovative Network (KIN) 8-7 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regular time. 27 December FAM reveals the best five players competing for their best footballer award. The nominees include New Radiant's Assad Abdul Ghanee, Ali Ashfaag, Shamveel Gasim and VB Sports' Ibrahim Fazeel and Ismail Mohamed. 31 December Daily news Haveeru unveils their nominations for their best footballer award and best coach award. The best footballer nominees are; Assad Abdul Ghanee, Shamveel Gasim and Ali Ashfaag of New Radiant, Ismail Anil of Victory, Mukhthaar Naseer and Mohamed Jameel of Valencia. The three nominations for best coach award include; New Radiant coach Gerd, Victory coach Mauroof Ahmed and Valencia coach David Booth.
