MALDIVES - Former Valencia coach, Chris dazed to see another Valencia former coach Kiss being on the list of nominees for Haveeru’s best coach award. Chris said he was surprised to see a coach who left the club halfway through a tournament, on the list of best coaches.
‘I was surprised to see Kiss as one of the nominees, as he left after big arguments with the club, losing the FA Cup, and leaving the team half way through the Qualifications (Dhivehi league) on the second position’ said Chris in his interview with maldivesoccer.
When Kiss departed, Chris took the helm of club Valencia and under his guidance Valencia played their last two matches of Dhivehi League Qualification, where they enjoyed a 3-1 win over Hurriyyaa and Guraidhoo respectively.
‘I did not claim anything for me as I had a relative short period with the club this season. Because of medical problems of my wife’
Chris, who joined Valencia with high hopes, unfortunately had to leave due to a serious medical problem of his wife. Even though he was away from the club he regularly contacted the management during the ending stage of Dhivehi League and provided his advices.
’From my point of view, Stoikov is the coach that deserves the award mostly for his international achievement, which was something fantastic for the whole Maldivian football, not only for New Radiant. But is just my point of view’
Chris also talked about Maldives’ failure in last year’s SAFF Championship.
‘Just returned to Perth, and yes, read the final result of the match v India - what a pity. It's hard for me to say anything about it as I did not see the game, so it looks as India were a far stronger team than the rest of the others from the groups, but it also looks as Maldives did not perform at their best...’
