How did you start to play professional football?

I started while I was studying at Faafu Atoll Thauleemee Marukaz (Faafu Atoll Education Centre). Then I played for the zone tournament. Suzeyne came to coach for the team and asked me to play for Victory. So then I played in 2003 and 2004 for Victory and then I played the rest for Valencia.

There were so many clubs willing for your service, So why did u opt for Valencia?

First thing was that I would get a first team chance to play for the team and they offered a good pay as well. Victory asked me to join them when I was in the island and when I came to Male’ they did not call. So when Valencia promised to pay me a good salary I signed for Valencia.

There were rumours that you had clashes with coach Stoikov when you were playing for Under 23 team?

Yes! He was really angry with me when I came out in the match against India. My hand was really swollen bad and I could not hold on to the pain. That’s why I came out. But he said I could have played and he got angry because of it.

Where do you like to play the most?

I prefer to play as a left wing position and I played in that position for Under 23 team during SAFF Championship and Asian Games against India as well.

How about this year? Are you confident that you could play better?

Yes! It would definitely be a good year for Valencia as well. We got a good management and I would also try to play better. But we do not have skilled players like previous years. There are around 5-10 players who are good in the current squad practicing.

Will you sign for more than one year period if your club asks you?

I don’t think so. And I don’t think it would happen. Players do not have any confidence that clubs would be able to pay them on regular basis.

When you started to play at this level did you face any obstacles?

Yes ofcourse! Victory asked me to join them when I was in the island and when I came and started to play they gave only around 12 chances to play in regular games. They never said they did not want me, but it showed from their actions. So I stopped playing and started to play volley ball. Niyaz of Valencia then asked me to play for Valencia and then I joined them.

Who is your favourite coach?

Kiss! He was very good and would give good support for the young players. He does not differentiate with the superstars and us. If Dhagandey also was absent from practices he would not include him in first eleven. It was a good boost for young players.

Is it difficult for you to play and work in an office at the same time?

Nope! It is not. The people in the office really help me in soccer and are glad that I work there!

What’s your best moment?

During the Asian Games when coach Stoikov asked me to play in the central midfield and said “Your brother also played in the same position against Iran last time. So why cannot you play? You also can play” It was a great moment for me as my brother (Anwar, Former New Radiant defender and Currently an MP at Citizen's Majlis representing Faafu Atoll) really helped me.

So it brings to us one question? Who helps you most in developing your soccer career?

My brother of course! My family and office people are those I should not miss as they really helped. People in the island also really helped. They watch every game and tell me about the mistakes as well.

Sadest moment?

The match against India when I came out, some of the officials really teased me! Actually I got off because I could not play.

What is your goal ?

To be the best player in Maldives

Which team do you support?

New Radiant. From childhood we support for New Radiant as my brother played for the team. I would like to play for New Radiant if I get the chance.
