Squad finalizes without key players

Key three players who were ommitted from the squad

Male’. MALDIVES – Maldives national team coach Ricki Herbert has finalized an 18 player’s squad without some key players for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against China on 24th of this month.

National team captain Ali Ashfaq, striker Asadhulla Abdulla and defender Amdhan Ali were not in the list due to injuries. Meanwhile goal keeper Mohamed Imran was also not in the list and Abdulla Fayaz replaced him as the third goalkeeper.

Coach Ricki Herbert has also omitted regular starter Mohamed Arif, who has previously criticized Ricki’s tactics.

According to an official from FAM this squad is for the match against China on 24th of this match and they will change the squad for the match against Bhutan later this month. Maldives will play against Bhutan on 29th of this month here in National Stadium, Male.

Maldives team will be leaving to China tomorrow night.

Ashfaq is still bitter about Popov's sacking. While I agree with his sentiments, he should stop acting like a spoiled child and set an example for the younger players by making himself ready for the national team. There is simply no word from PDRM regarding any injury, so this is a big disappointment. It's funny how people forget their roots once they start earning $$$.
