Muscat, OMAN – Maldives under 23 team coach Assad Abdul Ghani has said that their main target is not to concede an early goal against Lebanon in the 2016 AFC U23 Championship Qualifying on Monday.
“Our main target would be not to concede an early goal and we will start the game very defensively but based on how the game changes we will change the tactics if we have to do so.”
Assad also said that based on the match schedule it would be a tough tournament for them.
“I would say it’s a very tight tournament for us we have to play games within a short period of time. We will have just one day to rest before the second game.”
Assad also highlighted that they have few experienced players and their role is important during the match.
“We have few players like Irey, Hampu and Bambuch who have some international experience and I would say it would be very good for the new players for having those players with them. And I hope that they will use their experience on the field.”
Maldives will kick off their first game in the Qualifying today at 2130 hours (Maldives time) against Lebanon.
