The strength of a country’s league can be determined by the health of its top clubs. When Maldives most successful club does have unsettled issues in regards to players in their payroll, that is a serious problem. And when you juxtapose the fact that players went into AFC Cup without being properly remunerated, fans and supporters thinking players will throw their limbs and body into harm’s way to cross the hurdle of group stage, things cannot be more misplaced. We as fans, when players play half -heartedly, used to think they are careless and lazy. But now it transpires in Maldives, there are more despicable reasons why players are what they are and what you see them produce on the pitch are not really how they want to be portrayed by the fans. Few months back it was Valencia in the thick of controversies, now the biggest club embroiled in battle of this sort is highly regrettable - it reflects poorly on the administrative aspects of the FAM and of cause the club owners.

It's astounding how the management of these clubs never learn. VB splashed cash everywhere and signed all the national team players when they were a force and now look where they are. New Radiant followed suit and signed all the best players in the league, even players they did not need. And now Maziya are doing the same thing. The fact of the matter is, such an approach is simply unsustainable. One cannot expect to be a dominant force in the long term by implementing an approach of instant success. By the way, what happened to New Radiant's various sponsorship deals with big organisations? When Ali Waheed was Chairman, the club's finances looked healthy. What is the cause of such a dramatic fall?
