Future of Maldivian football is bright says Azim

Nawalapitiya, SRI LANKA – President of Football Association of Maldives, Mr Ali Azim has said that winning the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament indicates the future of the Maldivian football is bright.

Maldives Under 23 has won the Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament after beating Pakistan Under 23 by 2 – 1 in the finals.

Speaking to Maldivesoccer.com, right after the final match, Azim thanked the supporters who traveled to cheer the Maldivian team.

“Thank you to all the supporters who took the bus from Colombo in an 8hr return trip to Nawalapitiya to support MDV U23 today”

Azim said the success came after the hard work and effort by the clubs in the Maldives.

“This is all because of the first, second and third division football. The clubs did a good job in introducing young players”.

“It’s a very happy day for all Maldivians, especially for the footballing family”.
