Male’, MALDIVES – Hundreds of supporters welcomed the Maldives Under 23 national team to Male’ after winning the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Football Tournament. Maldives beat Pakistan by 2 – 1 in the finals played in Sri Lanka’s Nawalapitiya Stadium.

President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik welcomed the team in the airport. Football Association of Maldives president Ali Azim and Under 23 national team captain Adhuham presented the trophy of the championship to the President.

The team then posed for a photograph with the president and travelled with him to Male’ to be greeted by jubilant supporters.

The team then travelled in the main road of Male’ to the Social Center with the supporters.

It is the first major trophy for the youth team. It has been the first trophy under the guidance of Istvan Urbanyi as well.
