Mayotte beats Maldives

Saint Benoit, LaREUNION – Mayotte came from behind to thrash Maldives men’s national football team by 3-1 in the 9th Indian Ocean Island Games. Mohamed Umair took the lead for the Maldives in the 12th minute of the game.

Velizar Popov introduced a young team for the match played at Saint Benoit, Reunion.

Mohamed Umair broke the deadlock in the 12th minute from a wonderful shot inside the six yard box from a descent pass from youngster Hassan Naiz.

Maldives keeper Mohamed Imran made a stunning save to stop the shot from Mayotte player before the goal from Umair.

Mayotte changed their style of play after during the second half and they dominated the last fourty five minutes.

Mayotte levels the game in the 54th minute from a wonderful header from Osseini Anli and he took the lead for Mayotte in the 83rd minute.

Yahaha increased the margin for Mayotte just two minutes before the normal time and confirmed four points (as per the rule of this tournament, winning team will get four points) for them.

Madagascar didn’t attend the scheduled match for today against Seychelles due to visa problems and the match goes in favour of Seychelles.

Maldives will play their second game against Seychelles on Sunday.
