Male’, MALDIVES – New Radiant coach Iordan Stoykov has said that they can take home advantage against Hong Kong’s Kitchee in tomorrow’s meeting in their AFC Cup Group F tie at National Stadium.

“We are fully committed to defend our name. We can take home advantage and both the weather and the supporters will help us.”

“Football is unpredictable and we will see how things will go tomorrow.

He also said that it will be more difficult for them than the first leg.

“We are well prepared for this game, but I feel it will be more difficult than the first leg due to the availability of the two foreign player for Kitchee.” Stoykov said.

On the other hand his counterpart, Alex Chu said that the two Spanish players can help them to put them back on track.

“The two players who were injured in our first leg with New Radiant will start the game and it will really help us a lot.”

“We have four or five players who have played before in this stadium and that will absolutely be of benefit to us.”

“The temperature will be high and which won’t be a good thing for our team. If we can keep the ball and control the game, then I think we can get three points tomorrow.”

The kick off time of the match between New Radiant and Kitchee will be 1600 hours at National Football Stadium.

What home advantage is there when you have a stadium 90 percent empty. Yes, you are playing in the home ground but without an intimidating atmosphere that come with a big crowd that is easily an away match for home boys. If at all there is an advantage Hong Kong players may wilt under the scorching sun faster than Maldives players, but that also unpredictable given physically-frail Maldivian players’ tendency to fold due to lack of physical fitness, something we have been talking for an eternity yet there is no remedial action taken by the respective coaches. The day national stadium had been a fortress for home players had long gone, today maafannu dusty stadium gets bigger crowd for club Maldives cup tournament!

I'll put most blame for the empty stadium on the clubs and the fans. There's certainly a role for FAM too but in these matches, the clubs and their fans need to take responsibility, take the initiative, plan in advance and find creative ways to put things right.
