Male’, MALDIVES – Football Association of Maldives has passed and adopted the statutes as per the recommendation by FIFA and Home Ministry in the congress today.

In the congress held at Dharubaaruge today, 14 member clubs voted to pass the statutes with three amendments. The amendments are; to host the election within 20 days from today, to adopt the new statutes of FAM from today and to handover all the assets of FAM to Maldives Olympic Committee, Sports Commission or nonprofit making association if the organization was stopped due to any reason.

Normalization committee chairman Bassam Adeel Jaleel said that they requested to host the election on 20th due to the warning from the FIFA.

“If we failed to host the election before the end of this month then we have to face an automatic suspension as per FIFA."

Football Association of Maldives has tried to host the election thrice before but due to the failure to provide the necessary approvals for the meeting.

I believe this is a good step forward as it's the opening of our game to the future stars across the country, including some of the historical footballing atolls, of Alif, Baa and Addu atolls. I think the big names of premier league such as New Radiant, Maziya, TC and Valencia need to reach out to teh atolls and adopt the atolls as their own base. There's no way forward continuing to attach th clubs' base solely to Male' and its wards. As a long-term lover our nationla game I'd like to convey my heartfelt 'Shukuriyyas' to all those trying their best to make the transition happen.

Surely this will go down in the history of Maldives as one of the most delayed, most acrimonious, bitterly fought election saga. That also for the mysteriously low-key place called FAM. It just goes on to show how big egos clashes where fame and fortune involves!

News now is that they have decided that 28th May is way too early for an election because they have, would you believe, 2 whole days to spare before the deadline! So, they appear to have maintained their reputation for making bad judgments and done the typical / classic blunder!
