I don't know what to make of this appointment. What do Valencia fans think of him? From what I've heard, people's opinions are split on him. Yes, he is young and educated, but he has a history of getting conspicuously absent and failing to return phone calls whenever something went wrong at Valencia. Then again, he also gets a lot of credit for bringing Valencia out of the desperate situation they found themselves last year.

The current crisis in football is due to people like Bassam in the big position of the clubs who made the big mistake in the first place. They willingly chose a person thoroughly incapable of running an association, who was too deeply mesmerised by the power of politics and was using FAM at every avilable oppotunity to further a career in politics. For him FAM was never a real job it was a gateway for geener pastures.

As a player of Valencia this season and working very closely with the management and the coaching staff I see Bassam as a right person to lead FAM. As for his involvement with Valencia and his service to the players he has transformed the image of the Club . Players now dont see Valencia as a Club who does not pay salaries to their players nor a club who does not attend to the players needs. All the players who were with the Club this year and last year would give evidence to this. One more thing while commenting please don't speculate rather say what is right and don't comment using assumptions.

'Visionary' and 'leader' are too big an honour for somebody who is still so young and learning the trade in the real world. He has a long way to go and a lot to prove before those tags can be prefixed in front of his name. First let him bring FAM out of the dilemma they are in before awarding him the leadership award. Nobody can become leader overnight.
