Shamveel Ghasim celebrates after scoring the goal against India

New Delhi, INDIA - The whole country was glued to the TV set from the kinder garden kid to the president to watch the semi final match of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship between Maldives and India. We lost the match by 3 - 1 and were knocked out of the competition. Maldives never won a semi final match against India in the past history. We could not change the history this time. However, our players gave their maximum this time. Our coach gave his maximum. It's not our time this year. Two kilo got injured. Bakaa had a stiff neck. Our skipper got injured in the beginning of the first half. It was just not our time.

But can we do it next time? I hope so. The 350,000 people in the tiny island nation will be hoping so.

Dear writer, the very thought of replacing "ali ashfaag" even in decades time is beyond!! In a tiny nation like Maldives. Most football analyzers are making the mistake just saying ashfaag is the best player in this region!! As for my estimation the quality of ali ashfaag is hardly found even in central Asia, he had easily penetrated the Kirghistan defenders and even scored also the Iranian defenders were having a tough time against ali ashfaag.. As result Iran captain was show yellow card!!.. Could zinadine zidane be replaced easily by the French footballers,? NO!! .. And Ronaldo from brazil!? It took 20 years to replace maradona in argentina!!.. So let's hope we'll be able to do so!!.. Yes imran can be replaced but not dhangadey.. It's not just that simple .. Thank you

Your report is good but i should say you guys also has to take some responsibility. Coz the journalist have a very strong power. You guys never used the power of "news". I mean as you mentioned FAM is not doing well, then you have to question them, make reports about them, and make it to the HEADLINES. then they will be forced to do well. Otherwise what to say this is Maldives, the heaven on earth. The motto here is "relax relax and if you still have some time left then do the work".

Why do you say that you never saw the team so motivated and hard working? Because you were able to observe the while they are not on pitch? may be. But I watched the games they played LIVE, but I couldn't see that motivation and hard work, except, of course for some 20 to 30 minutes out of 360 minutes they played. I too believe that our physical strength is just way too weak. But still, A GOOD coach would have easily won the semi final, and would have won at least 7 points in the group stage. Competing in the region is going to be a tough task for us. I have a feeling that our brightest days in football are already gone. And people, don't say its mixing politics with football which is the reason. Its Maldives, Oppo spends most of his life working in Customs, Dhagandey in MPL, so why not politicians too take up a part time job in football?

We need better cohesion between the youth teams and our national team. FAM said they are going to introduce an Under-21 team this year. Make one of the assistant coaches the senior U-21 coach, so that players who come through can be introduced into the senior national team with much more ease. Also, we keep talking about how our players need to move abroad to improve our football. We need to have local coaches to move abroad too, gain experience in other countries, learn about different football cultures etc. With that, the coaches and players will all bring different and unique elements into our football, and it can only help to improve our national sport.

a SUPERB article,, - FAM's ''paperwork'' or just words on media were brilliant. Sad thing is we never saw them 100% active. I highly agree of giving the power of U16 & higher aged National side to headcoach + plx don't change coaches like Saudi Arabia, they have the quality but that thing is preventing them of winning..I don't want that to happen here.

We always see these articles every time we lose a tournament and are these followed by the journalists to put more pressure on the relevant responsible authorities? I think the work we are looking here is "Unprofessionalism" which include at all levels, players, FAM, Government, journalists and so on. If they all worked professionally, I think our players will be built for this purpose physically, mentally and discipline wise too. If FAM acted professionally, they would have had a very comprehensive plan for the future and not like bringing in a coach when the tournament is 2 months away. The government as in the youth ministry needs to look after the whole system in assisting the FAM to achieve those targets and not only visit the national team when they depart to a tournament as SAFF.

After seeing some really awesome ideas, i sat and thought abut a bit seriously about "what do to next..?" so that we "CAN do next time". As [ The pin head ] noted, only God knows when we can unearth another dhagan'dey. So i think to improve our players we need ( among many other things) international exposure and the best bet for us is using dhagan'dey. I remember Vanli saying that he is trying to send dhagan'dey to Turkey. I believe that would be a great choice. I think as long as Vanli is here we can use him as an agent. We can try to send even young players for trials and training. I think FAM ( if they use their minds wisely) can build a more stronger relationship with the Turkish FA. ::: If we failed to sent dhagan'dey abroad then our chances of improving football is very limited. Because NONE of the agents would even think of coming here to look for talents because of the lower rank. Look what Korea has got, once Park went to ManU, everybody was rushing to Korea and now many of the top clubs have a Korean player.

Clubs have to do something soon. Before we have seen technical director stop YDP after that start sending his ex team players to courses and he him self attending courses not only this when FAM Youth team went to hungary Coach Ali (ogaru) B license was appoint as head coach and A license coach Dunga (Addu) send as Asst. Why because ali got a room from mecca for TD's mecca trip. And now we see after appointing balak (most expensive political transfer party player) buying most expensive players to FA Chairman club. So u can decide on what interest the senior management is working. So clubs u are the guys who can do something before its too late
