Urbanyi slams Pakistan's 'dirty' tactics

Feb 13, 2013 - 10:48:15 | Ameen Faisal
Ashfaq played well after he was introduced in the second half.

Male’, MALDIVES- Maldives National Football Teams Head Coach Istavan Urbanyi branded Pakistan's tactics in last night's friendly game as 'dirty' after number of opponent players were booked for dangerous fouls.

“But Pakistan played a very dirty game and there were very serious fouls and at least two straight red cards”.

“To be honest Pakistan didn’t play football”.

“They didn’t create any chances other than some free kicks and corners”.

“But thats the beauty of football. You can have some success even of you don’t do anything”.

Speaking at the post match press briefing, Urbanyi said that he saw what he wanted to see from the game.

“We played a good game; I would say 70- 75 minutes. And then we had some difficulties”.

“But the style was the way I wanted them to play. Their passes, movements and creating chances”.

Urbanyi also criticized the match officials for not allowing the ball netted by Ali Ashfag stand as a goal in the second half.

Rebounded ball from a shot by Hassan Adhuham was fired into the net by Ali Ashfag just less than 10 minutes before the final whistle, but the Referee didn’t allow it as a goal.

“First of all, we scored a second goal. 2-0 and the game is over”.

When asked if Urbanyi was blaming the match officials for the last minute blowup, he refused to comment on it.

“I am not blaming them and it’s not my job to blame them. No comment on the referees!”

This is the worst result of Maldives against Pakistan in more than last two decades. And this is the first time Pakistan senior side managed to score a goal against Maldives since they won the match against Maldives in December 1991.

hey coach, how can you justify the last minute goal. keep our players concentrated till the final whistle. don't just blame the opponent and the refree. we should have scored more than 2 or 3.

this is not a bad result! im not urbani's biggest fan but the football we say by our team was tremendous last night! this is the first match they started playing passing game. a draw is enough. you cant just change the teams style and bring success overnight! atleast maldivians gave up the longball and started the possession game! we need more friendly games to practice this play.

I can't truly agree with Urbanyi. Yes the team played a passing game, in the middle of the pitch and mostly in our half! and because the pakistani players didn't mind it and allowed this type of play as there was no danger to them. There was definitely no penetration and until ashfag was introduced the match was going nowhere. Just look at the number of shots our team made. very few. The pakistani team had also a similar number of chances as well.

you cant expect a team to perform even as much as maldivians did, with 4 days of practice together. this is not a european nation, so we need to take things slowly. we should stop looking at how wuropean coaches getting sack because of consecutive bad results in about five matches. the team needs time to build! we should give urbani the time and my friend, you will be one of the proudest maldivian when our team becomes invincible in the region

I hated the coach before. But since the day U23 got the champion, i had expectations for him. I have never seen a better performance by maldives than this. We have to work more on finishing. And the passing game has shown us that we are capable of growing and developing. I salute you coach for the change of the game's style. :) Next time insha allah we wiill win.

the coach now talks like a maldivian. keke the performance of the team was very good. we had 2 clear chances to score. one for adhuham and the other to asdullah. with tom retiring we need forwards who will finish well when given the chance. tonight we mark the end of two illustrious footballing careers. Take a bow to assad and tom. two legend of maldivian football.

Lower ranked teams must play against team ranked above 100 so that we can come to know the real standard of lower ranked team. Indian has recently defeated Syria and Cameroon teams
