Male’, MALDIVES – Primo Corvaro, official from FIFA has said that the new statute of the Football Association of Maldives would include big changes.

“What FIFA and AFC are doing here is what we are doing all over the world and now all the member associations are going through the revision of the statute. And what we tried to propose or to promote is to integrate all main kind of stake holders of football family and to have a balance among them.”

“In the current statute you have 13 delegates to elect the president and eight from the first division, three from the second division and two from the third division. But its only from elite clubs and clubs from Male.” Primo added.

“But we now trying to do is to open the membership of FAM and our intention is to include women football, futsal, beach soccer, referees association and coaches association.”

“And now we are proposing to include the 9 zones within the Maldives to have their say in the Annual General Meeting. And with this there will be 44 members to decide the president of the FAM.”

Primo also highlighted that the main purpose of forming a normalisation committee for the FAM is tasked with three main activities.

“The normalisation committee was tasked to three main actitivites and they are running the association properly and I think it is going on properly and adoption of the new statute and third one will be the election of new leadership for FAM.”

Big changes with lots of work

General Secretary of FAM, Bassam Adheel Jaleel said that they have a lot of work within a short period of time to finish and they are working on that.

“We are having a lot of work before having an extra ordinary congress. We will have to form all those association and also they must have their own statute. So once we finished those works we will have our first extra ordinary congress.”
