Imran Mohamed was injured last night and he may need 4-6 weeks.

Hong Kong – Maldives national team goalkeeper Imran Mohamed and striker Asadhulla Abdulla suffered serious injuries during the 2018 FIFA World cup qualifier against Hong Kong in Mongkok Stadium last night.

Speaking to maldivesoccer.com national team’s physician Ahmed Shakeeb said that Imran’s injury was serious and it seems to be a meniscus injury.

“In Imran’s case it was a clinically lateral meniscus injury and we have to do a MRI scan. He may need four to six weeks to be back on the field if not ACL or any other injury.” Shakeeb said.

“Asadhulla Abdulla’s injury was a hamstring muscle strain and he may need two to three weeks.”

Coach Velizar Popov was forced to change Asadhulla in the 40th minute while Imran was substituted just five minutes into the second half.

Maldives team will arrive to Maldives tonight. And their next game in the qualifying was against China on 6th September.

Spot on. It is incredible how we want to win against top teams of Asia yet play second division friendlies in preparation for it. Even a kid will tell you need tough games over a long period of time if we want an incremental progress in the long run, if not to mimic their brute strength and general play. The way we try to do thing we will never improve.
