Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team coach Velizar Popov has said that they must score goals if they want to win against Hong Kong in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

“If we want to win this match we must be twice better then them and I have told to the players. You have witnessed the things happened in the match against Qatar and if we want to win we must score goals.” Popov said before their departure to Hong Kong.

Popov also said that they must forget about the match against Qatar.

“Now we have to forget about the match against Qatar and we must focus on the match against Hong Kong.”

“We have to make a good recovery both mentally and physically because it will help us to have something from the match against Hong Kong.”

The Bulgarian born tactician Popov also reiterated that Hong Kong football has improved a lot during the past couple of years.

“Hong Kong football has improved a lot in the past few years but I trust my players and if we play better than Qatar we can win this match."

Maldives will play against Hong Kong on Tuesday at 1700 hours Maldives time.

We have seen the mess vs Qatar. Not a single pass was successfully played to Ashfaq.

Hopefully, that will be sorted in this second match and our team can show what a great attacing line-up we really are.

We expect a very active midfield and hope the strong defence continues into this match. If it does, HK will get frustrated but again, the midfield will make the difference.

This is a chance to bounce back from the demoralising last minute defeat but it is highly unlikely we will get a win against Hong Kong in Hong Kong. A draw will suffice though. Hope Dhaganday will put in a good shift unlike that one at home where he, as a lone striker, barely had a go.
