National team and Maziya goal keeper Imran Mohamed will miss the rest of the season.

Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team goalkeeper Imran Mohamed is believed to be out of actions for this season after an injury he sustained during the match against Hong Kong on Tuesday night in 2018 FIFA Worldcup Qualifying.

Speaking to Maldivesoccer.com national team physician Ahmed Shakeeb said that it was a posterior cruciate ligament injury and it will take six months for him to return.

“Normally we don’t have to do a surgery for this but it will take six months for him to return. We will depart to Malaysia for further tests and they will decide whether to do a surgery or not. We can have these tests only in Malaysia and Singapore so will take him there soon.” Shakeeb said.

Shakeeb also added that they are trying to get him fit for the upcoming SAFF Championship to be held in Trivandrum, India this December.

“For sure he will miss the rest of the season but we are trying to get him fit for the SAFF Championship and that is a challenge now.”

National team coach Velizar Popov has said that it was a big blow for the Maldives team as he is not just only a goal keeper but he is a great leader for the team.

Very sad news. May Allah grant him a speedy recovery. Am just wondering where we stand at the moment. Faisal and Laban out of action, but we have imran (tc), ifrah, jazlaan, aathif and the keeper of victory sc. No offense to any one but personally I feel that a keeper should have a bigger frame and should be intimidating to the opposition players even before the match starts. I felt that given the above, keeper ifrah could have been a better substitute for imran in the hongkong match. But this is just one aspect. I hope and pray that we find a more than good replacement for imran soon and I urge all keepers to work hard to get this spot. Who ever gets the spot is in for a great learning curve and should actually challenge Imran for number one spot. I hope and pray that come December people will be wondering if imran or the new keeper should stay. Imran didn't become what he is in one day, so I hope we find a good and younger replacement who could fill in his shoes for the rest of the decade. May Allah give us a better replacement and grant a quick recovery to keeper imran.

The good thing is, whoever steps up in Imran's absence will have competitive match experience under their belt before the match against China. He would play against decent opposition in the Indian Ocean Island Games. It would be good to build some confidence before China's visit for the whole team. Even though we lost our opening two matches, you can already see the improvement in certain aspects of our game. Against Qatar, the players knew exactly what they had to do defensively. We didn't park the bus, instead defended spaces and closed down the Qatari players with intelligent movement. Against Hong Kong, we were a bit unlucky as injuries derailed our game plan, but the players worked hard and created opportunities even when we were 2-0 down. In years past we might have seen the players heads drop and lose 4 or 5-0, but the fighting spirit never left us. We are guaranteed at least 3 matches in the Indian Ocean Island Games, and Popov can use that opportunity to fine-tune our team before our 3rd World Cup qualifier.

Is our beloved IGMH still not equipped with machinery and in expertise to deal with these kinds of injuries?

Huge blow for Maziya. They had invested on him so much, so much so Suzain was banking on his leadership on the field and his experience to have crack at the title. Last year they were unlucky they came so close to winning the title only to surrender it due goal keeping and defensive errors. This time they had a very real chance of winning the league and now im not so sure.
