There is dhivehi saying " nuro dhaiyakah kireh nulibeyne". FAM works under the same mantra, that is do something to appease when somebody is enraged, here for the angry supporters. If the criticism did not snowball into a hot topic they were quietly planning to finish off with the Thailand camp. Since it would not and became unbearable so hastily arranges this match. It just shows they did not have any long term plan as far as national football team is concerned, they are just scraping through on day to day basis. Anyway this is good match, national team is at stage where anything can be good.

Laos is very similar to Maldives. They don't have tall, physically imposing players and are very attack-minded. In fact, their attacking players are quite dangerous and have scored against very good opponents. Defensively they are rather porous, just like Maldives, so this could be a good test for both sides. Definitely a much better team than Sri Lanka.
