Male’, MALDIVES – New Radiant Sports Club has released the three foreign players who were in the team last season.

New Radiant said that this decision was taken to ensure the national team players get more chances in the club’s defense line. They have recently secured the signature of Shafiu Ahmed from Maziya and with his inclusion to the squad they will have the national team defenders.

"We have signed Shaafy and we believe if we opt for national team defenders then that will benefit the national team in the AFC Challenge cup" a club official said.

Mansah Sylla joined the club this year and played a key role as a defending midfielder, while Kingsley was one of the best defenders in the last two seasons in the league. And Yusuf, who has joined with the blues during the mid season transfer period was used mostly as a substitute player.

I liked Yusuf. I think he could've been played in the defensive midfield role with his energy and passing.

Looks like new radiant has given up pursuing glories beyond a domestic league. Second time in afc competition this was not the expectation.

Looks like another 8 years before a Maldivian club makes it to the knockout stages. I was hoping New Radiant would strengthen their squad and improve on last seasons quarter final appearance. Unfortunately they signed 2 local players Oppo and Mukhthar, both way past their expiry dates. Shafiu is a good signing, but they still need a replacement for Ashfaq. I honestly cannot see another Maldivian striker who is even close to that quality.
