Not surprised of first half says Urbanyi

Kathmandu, NEPAL - Maldives coach Istavan Urbanyi has said that he was not surprised with the first half performance.

Speaking at the post match press conference, Urbanyi said that he told the players that this is going to be a tough encounter.

"I told the players this is going to be a difficult game after the amazing start scoring ten goals. I was not very surprised with what happened in the first twenty minutes and the first half"

Although first half ended in a 2-2 draw, Urbanyi had confidence that team will perform well. He believes that the team has capacity to win the match.

"The team has of course enough quality and capacity" expressed his confidence over the team.

The Hungary coach said that he took the second forty five minutes as a new match. And asked the players to take the second half as a new game.

"I told the players lets take the next 45 minutes as a new game and it was 6-0, quite impressive"

Urbanyi revealed the reason why he used Easa in the starting eleven.

"I brought him because he has quality and he has a long term injury. He is just trying to come back and I gave him a chance. it takes time. it was a simple test for him."

He also expressed disappointment on the pitch condition.

"To be honest, the field is getting horrible. day before it was kinda like wet now its muddy. And it's very very difficult to play."

Concluding he congratulate Bhutan team for the performance in the first half.

"Bhutan started very well, they put pressure and they score very nice goals. I just congratulate them"

Coach did great, coach can't keep all the players in the bench, sooner or later he has to bring them and plan for much tougher games...like the match against Afghanistan

Very poor game for the coach, totally wrong first 11,very bad substitution on 41 min...butan play much better 1 half 11 against 11..... think about it

Coach still cannot decide a starting 11.. How are u trying to coach? From ur arrival u hve never been able to select ur atarting 11. Always second guessing! And i am pretty sure that including messi is not coach's idea! Its suzain's. His fav boy since long time back. How can u be so stupid to "give a chance" to some one who is comming back from a long term injury in ur starting 11? And u said to other players not to take the game so easy? Haha. Ur words and actions doesnt match! Coach try to improve ur end also if we are to bring trophy back again! And dont try to listen to suzain! He will want everything! Even if he can, he will throw u out and he will be the coach! Congrats to the team for winning!

"the true" actually the substitution made on 41 minute saved us the game. I admit that the 1st 11 chosen by the coach was not so convincing, but all the substitutions made by the coach during the game was brilliant. We won 8-2. Give the guy some credit.

Agree, no other coach can maintain the team spirit and bring back the cup for us. more importantly, no other coach has shown such long term commitment to our country and national teams. We love you, Urbanyi and we'll be right behind you.

It was blunder by coach to start with recovering messi in the starting line-up when a very fit and in-form niyaz was available. It would be ok if it was the closing stage of second half. But not in the first half. In the first 30 minutes midfield was in disarray. Bakaa was breathless,in tending to the duty of two defensive midfielders. Messi, who was supposed to support him, was not in the game. He was off-colour. It added extra burden to our three-men defense, a dangerous tactic, in any case, if the flank players on either side did not join defenders when the opposition is on attack or counter-attack. Coach need to bark his orders better. We were exposed too often, the speedy Butan strikers took our defenders off guard. That they scored two fine goals, created good chances and hit the woodwork twice tell how weak we had been in sticking to the defensive tactical discipline. We also need to stop that many back passes to keeper. Too many good openings to play forward were missed because of it.

Well said. Basically we need to play as many New Radiant players as possible from semi finals on wards. The difference was obvious when Niyaz and Ali Umar came on as subs. It was evident in the game against Sri Lanka too. In the 2 games we played so far, we played with more fluency in the second half. This I believe is down to the coach fielding more New Radiant players in the second half. These players have played a season together in a team that did extremely well in AFC cup against strong oppositions.

Urbanyi is one of the reasons why we are won by a great margin, You guys should have respect for him. A good coach is one who tries to change the starting eleven to make it better than before. Imagine we had sri lanka's coach? :P our defence would be high up the pitch and probably it would be much worse. I m with urbanyi. He can do this.

Coach you might say whatever you want but the truth is you made a huge mistake today by including Aako and Messi in the team. You wanted to prove that Messi is a good player when he is half fit and this nearly back fired when you wanted to prove this point. The reality is you have no game plan and no alternative plan if anything goes wrong. You are playing with 3 defenders and we saw that even Srilanka put Maldives under pressure with the limited opportunities they had and today Bhutan exploited the weakness of defense. Better shape up the defense otherwise Nepal,India and even Afghanistan will make Maldives defense line look like school boys. Coach you will not be lucky third and fourth time round with the opposition going down to 10 men especially the goalkeeper being sent off in the first half. We don’t see any game plan from you it’s a 1 man team Ashfag and only Ashfag and if Ashfag has a bad day on the pitch this Maldivian team will look like an ordinary team. Coach you look like a person who is not sure of anything but full of fear.

I tend to disagree with your comment claiming Maldives as a one man team. Though Ashfaq is a rare special talent, it was our team work that won us the game. Sentay played extremely well and was the most effective player against Butan in my view. He was instrumental in buildup play and created many assists from which even Ashfaq benefited countless times.

My only worry is about our defenders. I don’t know why when an opposition striker close down, we get overanxious and kick the ball out near the corner-kick rather than clearing the ball up-field. On two occasions shafiu and akram uncharacteristically does it and get away with it. Yes, it gives them a simple throw-in we can defend well more relaxed. But it is a dangerous position to give away as they have long ball throwers. It is dangerous then a corner-kick. Playing against 10-men our defenders should have been more confident about their abilities. If we play against India it is understandable even if it is 10 or 9 players but not with Butan down to 10 men.

Test a player in starting 11? Have you heard of easing a player back into fitness? Yes messi is a good player. But what coach has done only puts more pressure on messi. Really really stupid of the coach. The team only played out well because of new radiant linkup... credit to popov.

What is wrong with you guys? Coach is fantastic and for those who says he don't have a game plan, he has proven it. Even though including messi in the first 11 was a mistake, I'm with the coach.. Don't you guys remember the days where we used to play long balls from the defence to the striker? Well this coach changed it.. And conceding a goal or two, we won the match. That too is with huge margin. So don't blame him.
