Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team physician Ahmed Shakeeb was not on the bench when Maldives played against Laos in AFC Asian Cup Qualifier and it was the first time that the Maldives team played an international match without him during the last 20 years.

“I didn’t want to comment on this issue but I can say that I am fully prepared to be on the bench.” Shakeeb said to Maldivesoccer.com last night.

Shakeeb is also a member of the executive committee of Football Association of Maldives and also he was the Vice Chairman of the Normalization Committee formed by FIFA.

Shakeeb, who won the national award last year was one of the most highly recognized and experienced sports physician in the region. He is also a member of FIFA’s medical experts to research injuries received by players during game-time and he had taken part in every FIFA and AFC based medical courses during the past 20 years.

A reliable source has confirmed to Maldivesoccer.com that Shakeeb’s name was on the team list before but a senior member of FAM asked to remove his name from the team list.

Maldivesoccer.com was unable to get a comment from the Football Association of Maldives regarding the matter.

How does one explain this? Is this the way how things works in FAM still, much fanfare after the much vaunted new FAM president! How could a member wield so much power that he can order the removal of chief medical person, much less someone as accomplished as Shakeeb?

Its the usual Mafia in the FAM, how can they remove his name from the list, FAM needs Purging to get rid of some unreliable names who even help soil Maldives football but always want to be in the spotlight for their personal gains. Look at the team like Valencia where players have gone for 3months without Salary and their foreign players have gone for 2 months without salary and can't even get food money but their boss wants to always been in the spotlight of FAM. enough of the hypocrisy. its a disgrace and brings bad name to Maldives football.

Shakeeb is the only sports physician in the country. Doing such to him is not acceptable. We all had high hopes for this new management but in few months into positions, they all have failed to show their capacity to take football to new heights. This is sad, treating people like shakeeb who by the way is an executive committee member tells it all. We need a change, hope President and those running the FAM act on these things in a better way and fast.

FAM is now a plaything for M.kaleem and Mohan.They even decide who is going to be changed, and during half time give instruction to coach while he is in changing room.

It sickens me every time i hear this....When the team loses its the coach...and only the coach...who is at fault. And when they get a brilliant result like this 4-0 vs Laos, its because of the interference by people within the organization who told the coach who to sub etc etc. I think the coach and his staff
