Male’, MALDIVES – Maldives national team physician Ahmed Shakeeb was not on the bench when Maldives played against Laos in AFC Asian Cup Qualifier and it was the first time that the Maldives team played an international match without him during the last 20 years.
“I didn’t want to comment on this issue but I can say that I am fully prepared to be on the bench.” Shakeeb said to Maldivesoccer.com last night.
Shakeeb is also a member of the executive committee of Football Association of Maldives and also he was the Vice Chairman of the Normalization Committee formed by FIFA.
Shakeeb, who won the national award last year was one of the most highly recognized and experienced sports physician in the region. He is also a member of FIFA’s medical experts to research injuries received by players during game-time and he had taken part in every FIFA and AFC based medical courses during the past 20 years.
A reliable source has confirmed to Maldivesoccer.com that Shakeeb’s name was on the team list before but a senior member of FAM asked to remove his name from the team list.
Maldivesoccer.com was unable to get a comment from the Football Association of Maldives regarding the matter.
