Afghanistan Coach Yousef Kargar

Kathmandu, NEPAL - Afghanistan coach Yosef Kargar has said that the domination of India in SAFF football is over and they can’t rule the region when Afghanistan is here.

“As far as Afghanistan is here, India’s rule is over. As long as we are in South Asia, it’s over for them” delighted coach said in the press held after the final match.

The overjoyed coach said that it was a great feeling for him to win the tournament after beating the teams with foreign coaches.

“Everyone has a foreign coach and only Afghanistan has a coach from their own nation. However, we have Afghan coaches and we beat all seven of them, so it’s a great feeling”

Expressing his approach to the win he said “We Afghans had our courage, talent and morale to win the game and we had to win”

Regarding the resignation of Kargar after winning the tournament he said.

“I had said that after 30 years of war, to win this title for the first time and I would retire. After hearing that I am retiring, every player and federation officials started saying to me that I shouldn’t say such a thing ever again. Players said they shall retire if I go.”

This was the first ever International trophy from football to Afghanistan. After the final match, the whole Afghanistan is celebrating their success.

I thought that Maldives will be able to show a challenge to India but it was wrong Nepal and Afghanistan in the other hand is a big threat to India. I am not saying Maldives is weak. This time they completely under estimated India. And remember it Does not matter the referees decisions because in the end it all matters is the goals that are scored. F.A.M = Needs Improvement.

Nepal and Afghanistan are improving like a thunder.... Maldives and India are progressing like a snail crawl... So, for the upcoming events it is Nepal and Afghanistan who are going to fight for the regional supremacy... The days for India and Maldives would be gone if necessary improvements aren't made quickly...

Yes you are right. No body can say that Maldives team is weak. Its very good team. Loss and win is part of game. Nepalese people like the way of football play of Maldives from long time back. Specially Ali Ashfaq is a fan of everyone here in Nepal. We always wish you to be in good position.

Ok Afghanistan was better and more consistent this time, but these kind of statements are rubbish. Can this man see the future? Does he mean to say that Afghanistan will win till the end of time? India have won 6 times and will still be the team to beat in the future SAFF cups.

Hello Indian I fully agree with you. No body should give such statement. Any statement should be healthy and based on reality.

It's all about stability. No one would have said it even 5 years ago, but Afghan football is probably the most stable in the SAFF region. They just started a domestic league, which has a lot of local support, and have players playing abroad in different leagues. India, with all their potential, are still being held down by in-fighting betwen AIFF and the clubs from Goa. It doesn't help that the AIFF is being run by people who have very little clue of how to run a domestic league. Similarly, Maldives has an ailing domestic league, with only the top two teams having a positive goal difference in the concluded season. We don't have any players playing abroad, and we're subjecting those who play locally to an awful brand of football week in, week out.

I think the coaching staffs and the players should take the blame . Ali ashfaqs statement and maldivian players being over confident was the reasin for such defeat .

Time to move on...the next big tournament is only a few weeks, the U19 AFC tournament. Has our youngsters started preparing. Question to the incompetent FAM, why is that India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan are taking part in the U16 AFC tournament, but not our Maldivian youngsters? Can u really say that you are preparing our football for the future. With this sort of incompetence and short-sightedness, how can we say we are one of the regional powers? In a few years' time, we won't even be in the top 4, at this rate!
