We used to be here quite often; a promising player barely out of sixteen, touted as the next best thing after Ali Ashfaq. The worry is how they fizzle out when they come as rare as diamond. Perhaps he will live by ethos of true professional footballer and we’ll have what we are looking for! All the best!

This kid definitely has something about him, as evidenced by successive awards and more importantly, the faith shown by Ricki Herbert. I just hope the media does not overhype him to the extent that too much pressure is thrown on his young shoulders. I get really annoyed whenever a promising youngster is compared to the "next Ashfaq". The thing is, every footballer is different with their playing styles and it's simply not fair to be compared to someone else before they've managed to get their careers properly going. What's good about Naaiz is that he appears to be a very level-headed individual, and I also think TC Sports Club is proving to be a fairly good environment for young players to develop. I just hope he stays there without jumping the bandwagon like many other players and moving to the richest club at that season a.k.a New Radiant or Maziya.

Not that they are compared to Ashfaq. Just that since he has set an incredible benchmark by maldivian standards these emerging talents are compelled to be evaluated against the best available precedent in terms of their prodigious talent and the impact they have. True dhaganday’s phenomenal rise cannot be matched for a while but these youngsters need all the guidance from their respective clubs and fam to make most of what they could offer on the pitch. Some players lose their way in the subsequent fame, others fall into the poisonous culture that we have here where smoking and sleeping late become a norm.
