Indian team, coach Stephen has selected a surprise team for the SAFF Suzuki Cup

INDIA – Indian head coach Stephen Constantine has announced his list of 40 players for the upcoming SAFF Suzuki Cup which is to be held in Trivandrum later this month. Indian team will start their preparation on 10th of this month in Kochi.

Stephen’s selected 40 players includes players from the AIFF U-19 Elite Academy, local leagues and players who are not part of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League.

Speaking to www.the-aiff.com, Constantine said: “We have selected a squad which encompasses all of Indian Football – right from State Leagues, U-19 Academy Players, Players from I-League and the ISL. We are building a Team for the future."

“In my first Press Conference in New Delhi, I had mentioned that we will be keeping a tab on all Football Players who play beyond the I-League and the ISL. We are trying to expand our pool of Players,” he added.

“28 players will join us initially. With the ISL going on, it gives us an opportunity to call up those Players that we would not have been able to work with. It’s not bad the way it’s worked out,” he stated.

It is a bit funny that India is not selecting their first 11 for the SAFF Suzuki cup. It is not as if India is ranked 1st in the region and they are playing in the Asian cup or getting great results against top teams. This is probably still the only venue where they can get something in the game. If it is a better ranked team it makes sense if they send a second team to the cup.

India will win the tournament easily. Even their B or C team is much better then the rest of teams. The bangaalhees, the dhivehin and lankans will be fighting for second place. Boring tournament.

Hopefully no maldivian game will be played on Premier league match days. If it is, we gonna watch the premier league rather then watching mediocre teams play.
