Male’, MALDIVES – VB Addu FC’s coach, Can Vanli has slammed back at the management after they revealed their decision to sack him following the disastrous season. In an exclusive interview to maldivesoccer.com, VB Addu FC’s coach, Vanli said that he has not been informed about the decision by the club to fire him.

“I have not received the decision by the management. I signed a contract before I came here and I should be notified via a letter. I am very very surprised. I am very surprised to hear it from the media. If they want to release me, they have to sign and I also need to sign that document.”

Following VB Addu FC’s manager’s comments that the club did not reach the target set this year, coach said that the blame cannot be put on himself.

“How can they say that I have to take the blame. Yes. I am the coach. But I don’t have the powers of a coach in VB. They take all the decisions and when we can’t reach the goal, I have to take the blame. Is this fair?”

“Last year, I gave them a list of players whom I felt we have to find. During the mid-season break last year, they said they would find the players. But the manager left to some volleyball tournament and they could not find the players. At the end of December, the president called and said that Ashfaq and Imran were released. I did not have a say in those decisions. If they wanted to release the best players in the squad, they could have at least consulted me.”

“So I said I wanted to have Messi and Rona. The president said he would finalize it. He said Rona and Messi would come. Satho had some problems with those players not with me. He makes his team, and I have to take the responsibility. I know which players I will need. They brought me terminal players and substitute players like Iboo and Zimba. I never knew them. How can I take off Bonda and Huseyin in a match with the players I had in the bench? Iboo left Male’, because he did not have a job and he could not earn enough money to be in Male”

Satho also mentioned that some of the players had problems with the coach and that was a reason why the management decided to fire the coach. But coach said it was the opposite.

“I did not start Adhuham in the first eleven during a practice match. He threw his jersey and left the ground after it. So the management decided that he can leave the club. Players get upset when they are not selected in a team. That happens, but it is not something for us to send him home and leave the club. It wasn’t my decision”

“With Ali Umar’s case, we had to deal with it differently. Last season he was sick and he lost a lot of weight and that was the reason why I had to use him as a substitute”

“Sobah left not because of me. Also with Oittey.”

“Who said Dhona would be released from the club. When he joined the club I said to him that I am very proud that you are in team. I never thought you would come. But after a few days, Satho and him had a problem and he was released by the club without consulting me”

“Satho fights with the players all the time. He had a huge fight with Farhaadh on the last practice session before the match against Kuwait over a water bottle. He has to know how to handle human things. He asked me to send Farey home and it was a big mistake from my side that I followed his decision”

“When we wanted to prepare the squad, all they said was, you can come, you can come and you can come and join practices. Never I saw a technical education and like this."

“At the end of last season they wanted to send Abu and Huseyin back home. I said that we would keep them players and see how they have performed for us this season”

“After the end of last season I went to Ghana, Belgium and back to Turkey to find players. I spend nearly 3000 dollars from my own pocket for the trip. The players from Belgium and Turkey were too expensive for the club. I was in negotiation with the Ghana player and on the transfer deadline day we agreed to a fee and when I called to Gahthaan, he said that they have finalized the team with another foreign player. I never knew who was the foreign player. But I am the coach here”

“When they wanted to bring Suat, it was a lottery. He came four days before the match and I said to them, make sure that he was not injured. But after the practice match he complained that he was injured. And now he has been trying to contact the management for months, and still no contact from them”

“With Ashfaaq’s case, I talked to him more than my wife and my kids. But he was disappointed. You can understand when the management decides to take the arm band from him. How disappointed he will be. I told him that he would get his money. But he says, he knows that the club management will not give it. He knows them. How can I promise him something, which I am not sure?

Coach Vanli also said that he has practiced in the last month with just four to five players.

“I had practice sessions with just 4 to 5 players. Where was the management? Were they in a holiday? When the management is not serious, how can the players be serious enough? Some players attend the matches. We just had one player to be substituted in the match. How worse can it get? And they put the blame on me. Is this fair?”

In the last few matches in the league, VB Addu FC just had two to three players in the bench including substitute goalkeeper.

cannot agree with all what he said. he is a well disciplined coach but technically he is no better than a local coach. he got the best squad in the last 2 season but he could not help to qualify his team to the 2nd round of AFC in any season. he always want to keep the best squad so that he can always be at the top of the ladder.

Its good that MS interviewed you regarding the issue. Now we know the reality in the dressing room. Just wanted to say good luck with your future projects and god willing you will be successful. And even though you have put out your word out I dont think anything is going to happen to VB, they are just some rich kids having a good time.
