Male’, MALDIVES – VB Addu FC has sacked their coach Can Vanli after their last match of the Dhiraagu Dhivehi League. VB Addu FC who finished the Dhiraagu Dhivehi League in the fourth position with twenty-five points from 19 matches, suffered a 5-2 defeat against Victory yesterday.

VB Addu FC’s manager Ibrahim Rasheed (Satho) said to maldivesoccer.com today that it was a decision by the club board due to the bad results in this season.

“It was a decision made by the club and the club has already informed it to the coach.”

“Under him in 2012 we did not perform well and he failed to reach the clubs target so the board has decided it. And also some players left the club as they were not happy with the coach, it was also one of the reason for this.”

Satho also said that in the upcoming President’s Cup assistant coach Shahid will be the care taker.

Under the Turkish born coach Can Vanli VB won the Dhivehi League twice in 2010 and 2011. They also won the Charity Shield in 2010 and 2011 and also the President’s cup in 2010.

“Under him VB failed to reach the target in 2012?” What target? Will we be able to know what target they have in mind? Vanli desperately begged to retain certain players long before the start of season. Did VB management give a slightest of heed, if not for him, in the name of the respect for the three league titles he helped to win? No. Vanli was kind of mocked in the face; all what VB interested in was running from pillar to post to rebrand the name of the club, no intent to entertain any of Vanli’s requests or give the seriousness they deserve. From how I see it, VB management must bow to the modesty shown by the coach who was willing to sacrifice his moral obligation for the sake of his club, despite management turning a blind eye to his humble requests. If at all Vanli deserves to be sacked it should be if he fails to do justice provided he has the players he wants and then fail to produce the desired result.

VB must remember changing the name is not enough. You can call your team VB Real Madrid or VB Barcelona but that doesn’t mean you will reach the target without good players. I think now you will know it.

Vanli is a good coach who is well respected by all football lovers in the Maldives. All vb management has done is to ridicule vanli and bring shame to maldiviant football. I hope vanli doesn't leave Maldives with bad memories. He is a kind good man.

So Satho and the VB management are placing VB's poor season squarely on Vanli's shoulders? It was stupid decision making by their management, not the coach, that led to their woeful season. If this this sort of attitude by is maintained by Maldivian clubs, we are never going to be able to attract top quality coaches. Vanli, I am sure, had his best interests at heart when it came to VB. He wanted to build a strong team and had to plead to the cheap management to invest more in the club. Instead, all he got were disgruntled players who weren't being paid on time, whom ultimately left the club. He was left to deal with scraps, buying over-aged has-beens from other clubs. I hope this nightmare season for Vanli has not soured his opinion of Maldives, and that he would speak highly of us even after he has gone.

"Under him in 2012 we did not perform well and he failed to reach the clubs target... and also some players left the club as they were not happy with the coach, it was also one of the reason for this.” This is not gud enuff Satho. U cannot sack Vanli just like that giving dumb founded reasons Vanli is the man behind all ur success at VB. U guys shud be ashamed of yourselves treating Vanli in such a low manner. Atleast if u dont want him at ur club show some respect to the man.

im really dissapointed with the team management. he have brought success and good name to the team for the past two years and since the beginning of this year, he's been warning the management of losing good players cause of less pay. i truly agree to what jj and the rest have said. VB management has to stand up to make good decisions rather than sacking...

I never agreed with any one who said Vanli is a great coach. He may be a bit better than the local coaches. If he was he should have produced better results at AFC matches with all the top players. He got the chance to prove himself this year with top players leaving. VB played Addu cad all wrong.

And finally Vb scored their biggest own goal of the season.. Sacking a coach, which worked with all his heart and passion for the club.. Atleast if you don't plan with him in future, be thankful for his work, which has really improved our football in the last 3 years and give him an respectful departure for maldivian football. You could have Mourinho or Ferguson on VB's bench for 2012, they wouldn't have achieved anything better then Vanli. Till today, i have to say, that Satho's work in Vb is just poor! The only thing he can manage is his Volleyball-team! Nothing else! Satho, Stay away from Our beloved football! I hope Vanli will not go with an bad impression about Maldives! Thank you Vanli!
